Hadlow WI

Thought for the Month

In life -

it's not where you go,

it's who you travel with.

We welcomed two volunteers from ‘Hearing Dogs for the Deaf’ to tell us about the Charity. One of the volunteers was accompanied by a beautiful black Cockapoo called Kia, his wife’s hearing dog. Sadly as she was unable to attend this meeting through ill-health. We were given a full account of how the dogs are bred and trained to assist people with hearing difficulties and most importantly, that each dog, after initial training, was trained in conjunction with the owner to suit their individual needs. Kia entertained us all by ‘padding’ around the hall. Unfortunately we were unable to see her in action, as the dogs are, understandably, not allowed to respond to anyone else but the owner. Nevertheless many of our dog owning members were very jealous of how well behaved she was, no more than you'd expect after all her training.

Hadlow WI was reformed in 2010 and meets on the third Tuesday of every month. Most meetings are held at the Old School Hall in the centre of the village. Occasionally there are outings in the summer when we might go on a walk or a visit.
